A photosensitive silver halide emulsion having improved photographic properties such as sensitivity comprises photosensitive silver halide grains which essentially consist of monodisperse globular-shaped grains. The emulsion is prepared by adding a silver halide solvent to a silver halide emulsion containing monodisperse silver halide grains having a regular crystal habit between completion of formation of the emulsion containing monodisperse silver halide grains having a regular crystal habit and commencement of chemical sensitization of the emulsion. The emulsion can be used for photographic materials.
