<p>A track renewal train includes a vehicle bridging an intermediate right of way section between old and new track sections, and having an upwardly recessed frame defining a free space. Equipment for lowering the level of, planing and precompacting the ballast is mounted on a carrier frame arranged in the free space. The equipment includes a ballast planing shield for lowering and planing the ballast, a ballast conveying elevator, a skid pad for engagement with, and precompaction of, the lowered and planed ballast, and a ballast dumping device. The ballast planing shield has a front end for scraping engagement with the ballast. The ballast conveying elevator is associated with the ballast planing shield and the free space is of sufficient height to accommodate the elevator. The skid pad extending horizontally for engagement with the lowered and planed ballast and the ballast dumping, device is arranged to receive ballast from the output end of the elevator, the ballast dumping device bridging over the spread rails guided by rail spreaders on the vehicle and discharging the dumped ballast outside the lowered, planed and precompacted ballast.</p> |
