PURPOSE:To economize gasoline, by providing a partition valve between the preparatory combustion chamber and main combustion chamber of an engine in which an ordinary and a thin mixtures are jointly used. CONSTITUTION:A partition valve 8 is provided between a preparatory combustion chamber 2 equipped with a spark plug 1 and a main combustion chamber 4 on which a piston 3 is fitted. A valve spindle 19 is rotated by a screw rod 12 so that the valve spindle is moved into or out of the preparatory combustion chamber 2 to increase or decrease the total capacity of both the combustion chambers 2, 4 to change the compression ratio. When a thin mixture is used, the valve spindle 19 is moved into the preparatory combustion chamber 2 to reduce its capacity to heighten the compression ratio. When an ordinary mixture is used, the valve spindle 19 is moved out of the preparatory combustion chamber 2 to increase its capacity to lower the compression ratio. According to this constitution, gasoline is economized. |
