PURPOSE:To prevent picture quality from deterioration by separating a video signal into components differing in frequency band, recording on separate tracks at different azimuth angles, and compensating a time difference between both the signals based upon deviation in tracking during reproduction. CONSTITUTION:A composite color video signal is separated into two through a low-pass filter 2 and a high-pass filter 3 by selecting cutoff frequencies in such a way that the band of a high frequency signal SH includes part of the high frequency component of a low frequency signal SL. A reference signal SBL is added to the low frequency component SL and then angle modulation is carried out. The high frequency component SH is frequency-converted into a low frequency signal and after a reference signal PHH is added, angle modulation is performed. Both the angle-modulated signals are recorded on different tracks. For reproduction, time axis adjusting circuits 41 and 51 compensate their time axes and the resulting signals are synthesized by a synthesizer 35 to reproduce a composite color video signal SO. |
