PURPOSE:To enable the local ununiformity of the electrolyte composition of a battery, which is caused by electric charge or discharge, to be rapidly rectified by applying ultrasonic shocks to the electrode or the electrolyte, and removing unnecessary gas and foreign substances. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 11 of a secondary battery 10 is connected to a charge-and-discharge change-over switch 13 by means of a current detector 12, and is connected to a d.c. motor 17 consisting of a field winding 15 and an armature winding 16 by means of a vibrating-type chopper switch 14. During the driving of the motor 17, change-over switches 13 and 18 are connected to contacts (A), and the battery 10 discharges electricity while the amount of the current is regulated by means of the chopper switch 14. On the other hand, during the charging, the switches 13 and 18 are connected to contacts (B), and electromotive force produced in the motor 17 during the braking of an electric train is made to be applied to the battery 10. When the charge and discharge currents become above given current levels, a control circuit 22 is operated by the signal output of the current detector 12, and produces an ultrasonic-wave driving signal. Then, an ultrasonic-wave generator 21 produces ultrasonic waves by being controlled by the above ultrasonic-wave driving signal. |
