Novel 17 beta -esters of oestradiol with a branched-chain aliphatic or cycloaliphatic monocarboxylic acid having 8 to 20 carbon atoms are obtained by esterifying oestradiol with the corresponding acid or its functional derivative to give the 3,17 beta -diester and then partially hydrolysing the latter. The novel oestradiol 17 beta -esters possess valuable oestrogenic properties, in particular in association with oral administration in the presence of a lipid. |
