PURPOSE:To make clear display without using a mosaic polarizing plate by sealing colored liquid crystal of the same system as the upper colored layer between an upper substrate in which parts other than display pattern are colored and a lower substrate in which the pattern is colored in other color. CONSTITUTION:A material of guest host colored liquid crystal is sealed between an upper electrode transparent substrate 1 and a lower electrode transparent substrate 2. Colored paint of the same system with the material of liquid crystal is painted on the surface of the upper electrode transparent substrate 1 excepting those parts 5a-5d which correspond to the pattern to be displayed. Individual colored paints 7a-7d different in color from the colored liquid crystal are painted on the surface of a polarizing plate 4 stuck to the lower electrode transparent substrate making the painted parts slightly larger than the parts corresponding to the pattern to be displayed. When voltage is not applied, the pattern is not observable due to the liquid crystal and the paint 6. However, when voltage is applied, light in the pattern part is transmitted and painted colors 7a-7d corresponding to the pattern can be observed. |
