An iris apparatus having a function of a shutter and a method for controlling the same are provided to precisely photograph a subject by promptly operating the speed of the shutter. An iris apparatus includes a received light amount setting section, a bobbin(26), and a permanent magnet(28). The received light amount setting section sets one of a large amount receiving mode and a small amount receiving mode. First and second drive coils for driving a pair of shutters are wound on the bobbin. The permanent magnet is rotatably inserted into a central portion of the bobbin. An opening/closing operation is performed by the magnetic force of the permanent magnet in correspondence to the setting of the large amount receiving mode and the small amount receiving mode.
