PURPOSE:To make the measurement of short distances from remote places with high accuracy possible by tapering the joining parts of two optical fibers, forming a semitransparent mirror thereon, and placing a mirror and an object to be measured by facing these each other by way of said semitransparent mirror via a prescribed distance in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis. CONSTITUTION:The end faces of two optical fibers 3, 4 are cut diagonally respectively at a 45 deg. inclination, and these are joined by aligning the optical axes at these end faces. A semitransparent mirror 5 is formed in the joined part. Further, a mirror 6 is placed by facing the semitransparent mirror-forming part at a prescribed distance l0 in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the fibers 3, 4. When the reflection surface of an object 2 to be measured is placed to face the mirror 6 on the opposite side thereof at an arbitrary distance l, the light made incident to the fiber 3 from a light source is divided by the mirror 5 to the light incident to the fiber 4 by transmitting through said mirror and the light indicent to the fiber 4 by reflecting successively on the object 2, the mirror 6 and the mirror 5. The distance l is known by measuring the time delay thereof. |
