The flat cable harness forming unit uses an adjustable template for laying the conductors, and featuring holes for branching off the latter. A movable carriage holds the feeder of the substrate for fixing the conductors while the revolved template comprises a helical strip contacted by rollers of the carriage to form a screw pair drive. The helical shape of the template shortens its overall length and thus facilitates the work of the operator while the rollers connection of the carriage reduces the friction in the drive and prolongs the service life of the unit. At the start, the carriage (6) is in its extreme position with contact rollers (15) out of engagement with the template strip (11). The operator clamps the end of each conductor (28) in a hole (5) of the template (4) so that the winding automatically takes up the required length of conductors in the harness formed by the flat.
