Method of treating raw coal

In the treatment of raw coal, a very fine-grained component coming from the wet treatment is treated chemically before flotation with an organic polymeric polyelectrolyte obtained by inversion of a water-in-oil emulsion of a latex, as a result of which both the clarifying and dewatering results and also the selectivity and the carbon yield of the flotation are improved. After inversion, the polyelectrolyte has a higher activity in emulsion form than comparable polyelectrolytes which are used as solids in powdered or granulated form by dissolution in water.
