<p>The invention provides an aqueous solution for the pyrolytic deposition of coatings comprising cobalt, tin, and oxygen which comprises a water-soluble cobalt salt and a water- soluble tin compound. It also provides a coated substrate prepared by contacting a substrate surface at a temperature sufficient to pyrolyze a metal compound to a metal oxide with the aqueous solution. It further provides a method for depositing a film comprising the oxides of cobalt and tin comprising the steps of: a. maintaining a substrate in an oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature sufficient to pyrolyze a metal compound to a metal oxide; and b. contacting the surface of the substrate at said temperature with an aqueous solution comprising a water- soluble cobalt salt and a water-soluble tin compound capable of thermal decomposition to cobalt oxide and tin oxide, thus forming a cobalt/tin oxide spine-type film. m</p> |
