The boring tool, in particular the boring bar, has a head part (3) carrying at least one cutting tip (4) and a tool holder (1) which can be fastened to the spindle of a machine tool. At its rear end facing the tool holder (1), the head part (3) has a cylindrical mating journal (6) which is concentric to the boring-tool axis (B) and is enclosed by an annular surface (7) running perpendicularly to the boring-tool axis (B). To accommodate the mating journal (6), the tool holder (1) has a mating bore (8) enclosed by an annular end face (9) as well as a retaining screw (13) in the area of the mating bore (8). The retaining screw (13) can be screwed up radially and acts on the mating journal (6) via a tapered extension (12) and a tapered recess (14), the two axes (C, D) of which are staggered relative to one another in the direction of the boring-tool axis (B). At least one intermediate piece (5) is provided, which if need be can be inserted between head part (3) and tool holder (1) and whose two ends are provided with connecting parts matching the connecting parts of head part and tool holder. In the area of the retaining screw (13), the mating journal (6) has a transverse bore (10) with a connecting pin (11) displaceable therein which has a tapered extension (12) or a tapered recess at its two ends. Coaxially to the retaining screw (13), a second retaining screw (13) is arranged diametrically opposite in the tool holder (1) in a screwable manner. Both retaining screws (13) are supported on opposite ends of the connecting pin (11) with their tapered recesses (14) or tapered extensions. <IMAGE>
