Printing mechanisms with band-mounted types for typewriters or similar office machines have an endless band (15) which bears the types, can be driven positively via a driving wheel (17) and can be guided and tensioned via deflection rollers (25, 27) arranged on both sides of the printing position. To produce an inexpensive printing mechanism, the driving wheel (17) which engages on the band (15) is also constructed as an impact member which is mounted rotatably on an impression hammer (19). Since the impression hammer (19) can be moved by a drive member (85) from a rest position into the impression position to produce an impression, the driving wheel (17) is connected to a motor (83), which can be driven stepwise, via a coupling (21) with angular movement. The printing mechanism with band-mounted types according to the invention can advantageously be used in inexpensive flat typewriters. <IMAGE>
