Indirect extrusion press with a stamping-mould arrangement with a loose stamping mould which is secured removably on a stamping-mould shaft and is movable in the axial direction relative to a billet container to extrude a billet through a stamping-mould opening, and with a stamping-mould handling mechanism for transporting the stamping-mould arrangement between the centre of the press and a position outside the press apparatus, which comprises: a section of reduced diameter which is provided in the rear end section of the stamping-mould shaft and bounds a stepped wall section; a loose stamping mould secured removably on the front face of the section of reduced diameter; and a cleaning ring seated loosely in the section of the stamping-mould shaft of reduced diameter, which ring rests against the stepped wall section and, in the axial direction, is at a distance from the loose stamping mould, the cleaning ring being in sliding contact with the inner circumference of the billet container in the extrusion phase of the pressing operation in order to remove container sleeves or shells. In the stamping-mould handling mechanism, the press can furthermore have a clamping device for grasping the loose stamping mould and the cleaning ring for the purpose of transferring the stamping mould and the ring into a space between the centre of the press and a retracted position outside the press apparatus, and an impact device which can be moved into the cavity between the loose stamping mould and the cleaning ring in the retracted position in order to knock the container sleeves or shells off the cleaning ring.
