The luminaire articulation has two articulation halves which can be rotated with respect to one another and are provided with mounting or connecting pieces for luminaire arms, the luminaire foot or the luminaire housing. The two articulation halves can be rotated steplessly about an axis holding them together, and are held in the respective rotary position by a runner ring situated between their bearing surfaces and by a spring element acting in the longitudinal direction of the axis of rotation. A further spring element acting in the direction of rotation supports the torque of the two articulation halves and provides these two articulation halves with a configuration which is easy to rotate. The two articulation halves are constructed to be identical as far as possible, are shaped like a pot and are held together by means of a head bolt held non-rotatably in one articulation half and a screw engaging therein; the bolt and the screw form the axis of rotation. Arranged between the bottom of the pot and the screw head of one articulation half is a disc spring whose loading can be set by the screw, and a face seal ring is provided between the head of the bolt and the bottom of the pot of the other articulation half. Mounted about the axis of rotation as a torque supporting spring is a helical spring which is held with its end spring limbs in grooves in the articulation halves. <IMAGE>
