In order to provide a light, inexpensive and at the same time wear-resistant thread brake, there is provided a supporting body (11) made of plastic, which has a reinforcement (17, 43) made of wear-resistant material at the points which can be touched by the thread (35). The supporting body (11) can possess insertion holes for vertical change-over rope-friction bodies (36) and/or brake disc supporting axles (20, 22). A rope-friction body (37) belonging to the thread brake can possess a reinforcement made of wear-resistant material in the form of a sleeve (40). The brake-disc supporting axles (20, 22) can also carry a reinforcement (34) which is then also designed as a rope-friction body for the thread (35). <IMAGE>
