PURPOSE:To adjust the electrostatic contrast of electrostatic latent images by providing an electrostatic brush charger between an image exposure position and a developing position in a photoreceptor freely attachably and detachably to and from the surface of the photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION:An electrostatic charger 2, an exposure slit 3, a developing device 4, a transfer device 5, etc. are disposed around a photoreceptor 1. An electrostatic brush charger 6 is provided between the slit 3 and the device 4. This charger 6 is moved by a solenoid 7 to the position where it attaches to the surface 1a of the photoreceptor and to the position where it detaches therefrom. A voltage VB is kept applied to this charger. Then, the electric charge of - is applied in the parts of the photoreceptor 1 where the voltage is higher than the voltage VB and the electric charge of + in the parts where it is lower, by which the contrast of the potential in the high density parts and low density parts is changed. Hence, the electrostatic constrast of the electrostatic latent images is adjusted. |
