PURPOSE:To improve a processing speed by detecting and segmenting a character pattern simultaneously with the extraction of a sequence of contour points of the character pattern. CONSTITUTION:A one-line scanning pattern is written in a line buffer 12. Under the control of a pattern processor 11, scanning is carried out to extract a sequence of contour points. For the processing of a character pattern 5, a search scanning boundary DA is scanned firstly to find a trace starting point P. Then, trace scanning starting at the point P is performed along the circumference of the character pattern 5 to find the sequence of contour points. During the trace scanning, X addresses of trace scanning boundaries TA and TB are written in registers 16 and 17, so a character pattern in a range from the TA-TB is outputted from an AND circuit 20. Then, a search scanning mode is restarted at the point P and stopped at a search scanning boundary DB. Thus, the position of the pattern 5 on a buffer 12 is found simultaneously with the extraction of the sequence of contour points of the pattern 5, so its detection and segmentation are performed simultaneously. |
