PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of an optical fiber cable due to heat during connection, an increase in the transmission loss of the cable, etc. by using a heat retarding plastic sheath as the sheath of the cable to moderate a sudden temp. rise during short-time heating. CONSTITUTION:A heat retarding plastic sheath made of plastics such as polyethylene contg. <= about 30wt% substance having large latent heat and a lower phase transition temp. than the plastic such as Sr(OH)2.8H2O or NH4Al(SO4)2. 12H2O is used. Optical fiber core strands 2 are bundled around a tensile strength body 1, the space among the strands 2 is packed with a material 3 for preventing water penetration and a tape 4 is wound while pressing. A steel pipe 5 is put on the tape 4, and the pipe 5 is covered with said sheath 12 to manufacture an optical fiber cable. |
