The sliding rail device comprises two rails which slide along relative to each other, each having two U-shaped portions 23, near the edges of the cross sections. The U-shaped portions engage hookwise with each other, forming two envelopment structures. The rails slide along with the help of guide-means such as balls or rollers. The two envelopment structures are situated at diagonally opposite corners of the substantially rectangular cross section of the sliding rail device.
