PURPOSE:To accelerate the rate of cooling and solidifying and to improve productivity and quality in the case of bringing molten metal into contact with a moving heat transmitting surface and cooling and solidifying the same quickly by flowing electric current between the molten metal and the heat transmitting surface. CONSTITUTION:While molten metal 1 from a molten metal vessel 3 is brought into contact with a moving heat transmitting surface 2, voltage is applied between an electrode and a cold electron source 6 by turning a safety switch 11 on. The flow of electrons entering the inside of the metal 1 from the electrode 5 generates Joule heat, which heats the molten metal and at the same time, this heat forms hot electrons which flow near the contact start point A, pass through the inside of the heat trasmitting surface therefrom and arrive at the source 6. The transfer of heat energy is accelerated by the effect of the flow of the electrons through the contact surface, whereby a desired cooling rate is obtained. It is particularly possible to control the temp. distributions within a thick plate. |
