The column, particularly for a street lamp, is fixed to a foundation, and incorporates a resilient support between it and the anchoring device secured to the foundation, absorbing energy. This can typically be achieved by a friction coupling, comprising an outer ring and an inner boss fixed at the same level on a tapering column. When the latter is pulled free of the foundation a deep-drawing process causes it to alter in cross-section. Alternatively the absorbent support can be fixed to the inside of the column above the ground level at one end, and at the other to the anchoring device, there being curved components between the fixing points. |
