The method involves moving a piston (2a) from a starting position relative to another piston (2b) under enlargement of a proportioning volume (16) present between the pistons. The lubricant is conveyed to the proportioning volume by an inlet port (12). The pistons are moved with the proportioning volume towards an output opening (13). The latter piston under reduction of the proportioning volume is conveyed relative to former piston and a pre-determined quantity of the lubricant is conveyed through the output opening. An independent claim is also included for a lubricant proportioning pump has two pistons.
