Punching head for identification marking of objects - uses coupled setting and punch wheels with set character readily visible to provide rapid setting on metal or plastics

The marking punch is used for stamping identification numbers or characters onto metal or plastic objects. The punch head has a set of notched edged discs comprising pairs of setting discs, with the character marked on it, meshing with the disc carrying the character punches. Rapid direct visual setting of the character sequence is then possible. The setting discs are of different diameters, and are stacked one over the other on a common shaft with a single locking nut. A spring fits into the notches to pre-index each disc, and a clamp is fitted at the edge of the punch disc to lock it in place once set up. A direct optical visualisation can be used or a digital encoder fitted to the setting wheels for an electronic display.
