<p>Methoxycinnamic acid derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are new: In (I), n is an integer at least 1; R is an organic gp. bonded to alkylene by a N, S or O, esp. it has formula NR1R2, +NR1R2R3 X' or (X')mR'1. R1 and R2 are H or (cyclo)aliphatic, aryl, aralkyl, cycloaliphatic-alkyl or heterocyclic (alkyl) gps., or NR1R2 is an opt. substd. satd. heterocycle; R3 is H or lower alkyl; X is pharmaceutically acceptable anion; X' is O or S, m is an integer at least 1, R'1 is R1 or also a gp. -(CH2)n.O.CO.CH:CH-(4-methoxyphenyl). (I) are made by conventional esterification methods. (I) are useful as sunscreening agents. They have a particular affinity for the keratin of the corneous layer and are perfectly well tolerated.
