Superficial flash or burrs are removed from machined or moulded surfaces on thermoplastic articles by brief exposure to a hot of flaming gas jet. Brief intense heating causes contraction or destruction of superficial projections of low thermal capacity before the bulk of a body can become overheated. Esp. application to non-planar or matt surfaces which are difficult to buff up quickly or reliably by automatic or manual mechanical means.
