Apparatus for laying one or more layers consisting of a plurality of metal wires (3), of which the lay direction changes continuously during the stranding operation, onto the surface of elongate articles, especially electrical cables or lines, by means of a hollow nipple (2) which revolves with an alternating direction of rotation and on the conical outer surface of which the wires (3) run in guide grooves (7) distributed uniformly over the periphery, and in the bore of which the article is guided, characterised in that the hollow nipple (2) is provided with guide grooves (7) only at its end facing the point where the wires (3) run onto the surface of the article and, at the end facing the entry of the cable core into the hollow nipple (2), is connected releasably to an annular plate (5) which has bores arranged in one or more part circles for the wires (3), and in that the angle of inclination of the outer surface of the revolving hollow nipple (2) relative to its centre axis and, consequently, the angle of inclination of the wires (3) running along this surface relative to this axis is 5 to 20 degrees, preferably 10 to 15 degrees, and the radial distance between the point where the wires run off from the end of the revolving hollow nipple and the surface of the article passing through it is between 0.3 and 2.0, preferably 0.8 and 1.5, mm. |
