The device has a bolt cooperating with a complementary locking element provided on a fixed structure. The bolt is displaced along a locking axis for passing from an unlocked state, in which a sliding panel is slid, to a locked state, in which the bolt cooperates with the locking element for preventing the sliding of the panel, and vice versa. The bolt is integrated to toothed bars (21, 22) driven in translation by a toothed wheel (20) that is driven in rotation by an actuating handle (1).
