PURPOSE:To apply an irreducible bias for cleaning to a cleaning member by detecting the amount of toner, remaining on a photoreceptor after transfer, by a photoelectric converting element, and then varying a bias potential applied to the cleaning member according to the output of said element. CONSTITUTION:On the up side of a cleaning member 3 in the rotation direction of a photoreceptor 1, an array 12 of photosensors is provided oppose the photoreceptor, and according to the output of the photosensor array 12 which corresponds to the amount of sticking residual toner T, a bias potential applied to the cleaning member is varied to apply an irreducible bias necessary for cleaning. The output of the photosensor array is passed through an analog shift register CCD.BBD and converted by an A/D converter into an analog signal to control the bias potential from a power supply 5 to a magnet brush 3 by a bias controller. |
