A mixture which contains the compound of the formula (1) given in Patent Claim 1 as the main component is prepared while thoroughly mixing acrolein (7) with myrcenol (5); the reaction is carried out (1) in the presence of a catalytic quantity of a Lewis acid catalyst, specifically any one of the following: ZnCl2, SnCl4, ZnBr2, aluminium chloride or C2H5AlCl2, or of a mixture of two or more of these Lewis acids, (2) at a temperature in the range from -20 DEG C up to 100 DEG C, and (3) under a pressure of 1-100 atm., where the molar ratio of acrolein reaction components:myrcenol reaction component is in the range from 10:1 to 1:10 and the quantity of Lewis acid catalyst in per cent by weight, based on the total weight of acrolein and myrcenol, is 0.2 to 10%. The mixture can be used as a component of perfumes or of perfumed articles.
