PURPOSE:To obtain an antitumor agent having improved remedial effect with low toxicity in a small dose, by using a composition containing a polysaccharide constituting a special structure attached to a cellular wall skeleton of a lactic streptococcus as an active constituent. CONSTITUTION:A lactic streptococcus, e.g. Streptococcus lactic BK-045 strain (FERM-P. No. 4591), is cultivated in a culture medium at 25-37 deg.C, preferably by the liquid spinner culture method, and then collected. The resultant microbial cell of the lactic streptococcus is crushed, centrifuged and filtered to give a sediment, which is heated with formamide and then cooled. The volume of the formamide to be added is 10 times that of the residuum. The solution of the microbial cell is treated with the formamide is then mixed with an acidic alcohol, and centrifuged togive a supernatnat liquid. The resultant supernatant liquid is treated with acetone to afford a precipitate which is an active constituent. The dosage form thereof is powder, capsule, suspension or granule, and can be administered orally, intraperitoneally or intravascularly. |
