For a winch for raising and securing the feet of animals during claw treatment in so-called grooming booths, provision is made to permit lowering of the winch without reversing the direction of rotation of the winch lever. Serving this purpose is a construction in which the rope drum (2, 13) designed as hollow shaft (2) is firmly connected to a winch shaft (3) mounted on the frame tube (1), and both parts (2, 3) can be released together by axial displacement from the ratchet mechanism (pawl 10, ratchet wheel 7) by means of the winch lever (9) and against the force of a compression spring (5) located in the shaft interior (2a). In this unlocked state, the rope drum (2, 13) rotates under load together with the winch shaft (3) in direction P4, in the course of which the lowering speed can be regulated by more or less pronounced applied pressure of one of the rope pulleys by means of the hand lever (9) against a brake block (16) fastened to the frame tube (1). <IMAGE>
