A washing device which can be operated in one-man operation by the driver of a driving vehicle and is intended for washing traffic signs, in particular on motorways, is attached to a mounting of a front extension arm and is composed of an arm, one end of which is attached exchangeably to the mounting and the other end of which bears a carrier with a revolving washing brush and a spray device. The carrier, the mounting and the front extension arm can be set by hydraulic adjusting devices into a vertical and a horizontal working position on both sides of the driving vehicle and into two transport positions. A cable which is guided over non-rotatable sectors and connects the carrier to the anchorage of the front extension arm holds the carrier in a horizontal working position. In this working position, an arm, articulated to the mounting, can be deflected to a limited extent out of the plane of the front extension arm; an angular frame, attached to the mounting, cooperates with a spring-loaded roller to return the arm into this plane.
