Process for the preparation of glycerol dichlorohydrins by reacting allyl chloride and chlorine in an aqueous medium. An aqueous emulsion of allyl chloride in a water/allyl chloride weight ratio of at least 25:1 is continuously delivered to a tubular reactor, together with gaseous chlorine in a molar quantity not exceeding that of allyl chloride fed in, and reacted therein with said chlorine under adiabatic conditions, maintaining an inlet temperature of 10-50 DEG C, a residence time of at least 15 seconds and a linear velocity of the reagent mixture of at least 0.5 m/sec. |
