PURPOSE:To attain a cushioning property which corresponds to the running condition of a vehicle, by continuously increasing or decreasing the opening pressure for a damping valve according to the attractive force of a solenoid unit. CONSTITUTION:A piston 2 is provided with a valve body having a cylindrical internal opening. A coil 17 wound around a bobbin 16 is provided in the internal opening so that the coil is located in a casing 19 at one end 15a of a secured shaft 15. A solenoid unit 18 is thus constructed. When the solenoid unit 18 is excited, an expansion-side damping valve 20 for closing a seat 22a is attracted toward the end face 15a of the secured shaft 15 so that the thrust on the valve seat which includes the preset pressure for the valve increases. The attractive force to the expansion-side damping valve 20 changes in accordance with the exciting current of the coil 17. Therefore, the damping force can be increased or decreased in a stepless manner, according to the magnitude of the control current. |
