Fungicidal title compds. I (Y=CCI3, CHCI2, CFCI2, CFCI2; X=Cl, Br, F, C1-4 alkoxy; R=2-furanylmethyl, tetrahydro-3-furyl, tetrahydro-2-pyranylmethyl, 2-thiopenemethyl, 2.2-dimethyl-1, 3-dioxolan-4-yl methyl) were prepd. by the reaction of compd. II(X'=Cl, Br, F) and compd. III (M=Na, K, Li, Ce) followed by the reaction of compd. IV(Z=C1-4 alkyl) to give compds. I. Thus, 2,6-dichloro-4-(trichloromethyl)pyridine dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol was mixed with metalic Na dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol and stirred for 5 hrs at 65-75≦̸C to give 2-chloro-6-(2-ethoxyethoxy)-4-(trichloromethyl)-pyridine (yield 75%).
