The invention provides a sustained release preparation which attains such a dissolution profile that even a highly water-soluble drug permits once-daily administration and which brings about both stable drug dissolution behavior and downsizing of preparation; and a process for production of the preparation. A preparation containing a highly water-soluble drug, a gel -forming polymer, and a fat-soluble low-melting substance, which is usable as a sustained release preparation permitting once-daily administration and permits downsizing of preparation and which can be easily produced.
