The current invention involves a procedure for production of alkali metal salt of amino acids and is of the type indicated in the introduction to claim 1. Synthesis of alkali metal salt of amino acids on reaction of amino alkanols and alkali metal hydroxides in a catalytic aqueous system is known, cf, Dumas and Stas (Ann, 35, 129-173, 1840). Conversion of amino-alcohols to alkali metal salts during carefully controlled conditions later became developed in such a way that the amino groups in particular was kept intact, whereby a favourable conversion to alkali metal carboxyl acidic salt is made possible.
