In the constant pressure printing mechanism for use with a hand labeller, a printing platen(23) is mounted on the main frame(1) for pivotal movement. The platen is biased apart from the printing head(13). Constant pressure appts. responsive to the operation of the hand lever(7), turn the printing platen toward the printing head to the awaiting position. The constant pressure appts. includes overridable devices carried by either the lever of platen and override carried by the other. When the hand lever is squeezed, the overriding mechanism operates shifting the platen to its awaiting position and further pressure abuts the printing head against the printing platen.
