PURPOSE:To manufacture a leader tape, which has transprent lower oxide, successively on the same base material with a magnetic tape, by adjusting the angle of incidence of a vapor flow of ferromagnetic metal under adequate oxygen partial pressure. CONSTITUTION:Under adequate oxygen partial pressure, a transparent base such as a polyester film is fed from a feed shaft 5 to a take-up shaft 6 along a rotary drum 8. Then, a mask 4 and a movable shielding plate 3, which is positioned near a vaporing source S for magnetic metal, are used, and the shielding plate 3 is so positioned that the angle of incidence of a vapor flow is >=theta2 during a period with time width T1, and theta1(theta1<theta2) during a following period with time width T2, thus forming a leader tape part which has a magnetic layer for the time width T2 and a lower oxide layer of magnetic metal for the time width T1. |
