PURPOSE:To obtain excellent characteristics of a thin-film magnetic head while maintaining magnetic anisotropy by achieving glass sealing in a magnetic field nearly at right angles to the direction of a signal magnetic field which passes through a magnetic thin layer. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 23 and a protective substrate 25, while placed on a fixed base 21 in the same magnetization direction and forming a thin-film magnetic head through sealing glass 24, are applied with pressure P by a spring, etc., and, at the same time, sealed with glass by being heated in a core tube 20 in an electric furnace. On both sides of an MR element 13, magnetic shielding members 10 and 15 are provided with non-magnetic insulator layers 11 and 14 between. On one side surface of the element, a bias layer 12 for applying a DC bias magnetic field to the element is formed. A wear resistance layer 16 is adhered onto the member 15 and on the surface of a protective substrate 19, a wear resistance layer 18 is provided. The substrate 10 and protective substrate 19 are sealed through a fusion glass layer 17. |
