Pyrrolidinones(I), useful for treatment of cerebral insufficiency and improve intellectural efficiency, were prepd. by reduction of 2-pyrrolinone derive.(II; one in R1 and R2 is hydrogen, the other is formed a double bond with R2). Thus, 10.0 g 5-oxo-3-pyrrolidinyl acetate and 8.82 ml trimethylchlorosilane were dissolved at -5-0≦̸C in 100 ml THF to give 5-oxo-1-trimethysilyl-3-pyrrolidinyl acetate(III). 12.5 g III and 9.90 g p-methoxybenzoyl chloride were stirred in THF at 70≦̸C for 1 hr. Obtained 150 mg 1-(p-methoxybenzoyl)pyrrolin-2-one was hydrogenated in ethyl acetate with 30 mg 5 % pd/C to give 1-(p-methoxybenzoyl)-2-pyrrolidinone.
