A multi-purpose press, for jointing sheets in two or three dimensions by gluing, welding, or vulcanising, has an elastic tube in its lower tool and an upper tool which moves vertically. A central support system has two vertically moving top tools and two horizontally moving bottom tools, the latter are made up of several units, each with an elastic tube which, by means of a clamp in the overlap area of the work, has an unpressurised area at definite intervals and theses are all opposite recesses in the top tool. Appts. is versatile, and high productivity and efficient operation are achieved.
