An apparatus for decreasing nitrogen oxide in a diesel engine is provided to reduce the emission quantity of NOx(Nitrogen Oxide) by improving NOx absorption capacity and reduce cost by additionally installing a bypass pipe and a valve. An apparatus for decreasing nitrogen oxide in a diesel engine comprises: a turbocharger(5) installed between a intake pipe(3) an exhaust pipe(4) and of the diesel engine(1); a DPF(Diesel Particulate Filter,6) and an NSC(NOx storage catalyst,7) successively installed at the exhaust pipe; an EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) pipe(9) connecting the rear end of the DPF and an intake part of the turbocharger; an EGR cooler(8) installed at the inlet of the EGR pipe; an EGR valve(14) installed at the outlet of the EGR pipe; An engine control unit(13) controlling the opening degree of the EGR valve; a bypass pipe(10) connecting the front end of the NSC and the EGR cooler; and a throttle valve(11) controlled with the ECU.
