<p>A hand-held dryer such as may be used for drying hair generates a stream of low-humidity air by forcing ambient air through a dessicant bed. Heat generated by the absorption of water is transferred to the air causing a small rise in temperature across the dessicant bed. The low air temperature ensures that there is no nik of burning the hair. Pref. dryer comprises a housing having a handle, body and outlet duct. A motor, connected by wiring to batteries or mains, drives the fan in direction F1. A cannister of dessicant, e.g. CaCl2 or zeolite, is loaded into outlet duct through port and is isolated from the surrounding air by spring-loaded dampers when the dryer is not functioning.</p> |
