To reduce the consumption of water and energy without impairing the cleaning result, a crockery washing method is proposed, according to which the washing liquid, which flows into the washing container during the rinsing of the regenerated ion exchanger and is enriched with proportions of hardener and salt, can be pumped off out of the washing container to a large extent prior to the prerinsing or cleaning operation, and a programme section, precleaning and main cleaning, proceeding in several stages, partially replaces or improves the known programme sections, prerinse, dilute, intermediate rinse, whilst saving water and energy.
