Pulverised coal, in dense phase in a carrying gas, is injected through the tuyeres of a blast furnace. The pulverised coal is fluidised in a reservoir. The total flow is adjusted by the pressure difference between the reservoir, and the hot blast pipe supplying the tuyeres. The individual flow of coal through each tuyere is also regulated simultaneously, while maintaining a determined speed of injection in the nose of each. This is done by varying the effective section of flow of fluidised coal, by the controlled addition a small quantity of regulating gas, upstream of the introduction of the carrying gas. With increases in the cost of fuel oil, injected via hot blast tuyeres into blast furnaces, coal could now be competitive. Previous problems in using it are overcome by this process, which permits simultaneous regulation of the total flow of pulverised coal, and of the individual flow injected through each tuyere.
|
