Bidirectional communication system for language teaching - includes teacher and pupil units linked together via telephone lines

The bi-directional communication system includes a central terminal (1) and a number of peripheral terminals (3) linked to the central terminal ty telephone lines. The central terminal used by the teacher includes a control desk (4) to which a microphone (5) and a number of tape recorders or record players (6) are attached. The control unit has a number of fourteen core outputs - one for each peripheral terminal. Each cable leads to a coding stage (8) and modulating circuit (9) whose output is fed to a telephone line, (2). Each peripheral unit has its input connected via a switch (13) to a coding and modulation stages in parallel linked to a tape recorder (16). The tape recorder provides a return signal (19) when instructions have been carried out. The units provide the same facilities as those offered by a language laboratory without the need to be in the same room.
