METHOD FOR TREATING HYDROGEN SULFIDE-CONTAINING WASTE GASES

A method is provided for removing hydrogen sulfide out of liquid sulfur. Liquid sulfur is introduced into a containment vessel (40) in an amount to partially fill this containment vessel and create a hydrogen sulfide- containing liquid sulfur phase and a hydrogen sulfide-containing liquid sulf ur (123) and a hydrogen sulfide-containing vapor (158). A portion of the hydrog en sulfide-containing liquid sulfur is transferred into an oxidation vessel (12 6) where the liquid sulfur is treated with an oxidizing gas (132) to produce a hydrogen suflide-containing gas (148) at a pressure of at least 60 p.s.i. which is forwarded to an eductor (156). This eductor used the hydrogen sulfi de- containing gas (162) from the containment vessel (40) as the sweep gas, rath er than compressed air or steam.
